A nationwide presence

To ensure the protection and monitoring of biodiversity across the country, the National Agency for Nature conservation relies on a network of regional structures known as Conservation and Development Units (CDUs). These units serve as the operational link between the agency and natural ecosystems in the field.

Located across different regions, the CDUs play a key role in observing nature and generating knowledge about biodiversity. They contribute to the inventory of animal and plant species, the monitoring of natural habitats, and the identification of sites with significant ecological value.

The CDUs also participate in proposing the classification of natural sites, monitoring threatened or game species, and implementing conservation actions on the ground. Today, the agency’s network includes six (06) UCD, located in the following wilayas:

Batna

Bechar

Bejaia

El Bayadh

Laghouat

Sidi Bel Abbes

"Through this territorial presence, the agency strengthens its capacity for observation, coordination, and action to better understand, protect, and promote the country’s natural heritage."
